After much anticipation, reasearch, reading, waiting, hoping, and searching, we've found our first little guy that we'll be adopting June 5. He's a full blooded German Rottweiler puppy whose name will be Dansby, after THE Karlos Dansby, who is Bradley's all-time favorite Auburn football player. Now, before any of you freak out, I'll do some damage control about the breed. Rotties as a whole are NOT, I repeat NOT dangerous or "bad" when they ARE TRAINED CORRECTLY. I hope you caught the emphasis there. The horror stories of any breed, chihuahuha or rottweiler are caused, most every time, by neglegent or ignorant owners who do not invest the necessary time and effort into training and raising a calm, submissive, and obedient member of the family. We have read books, watched instructional dvds, talked to other rottie owners and trainers, and are thoroughly prepared to take on the challenges and rewards that accompany owning a Rottie. Now that the disclaimer and/or preventative crowd-control has been put in place, I'll tell you a bit about him.

Right now, Dansby is just over four weeks old. He was born on Friday, April 17th, in Clarkesville, GA to the wonderful breeders, Bill and Susan Johns, at Little Brook Farms. This past weekend we went to "meet" our little guy and pick him out. There were two boys in the littler and we got to choose. Both little guys were really cute. Dansby is a little more laid back than his brother, we think. While the other little guy was running, well, waddling around everywhere, Dansby stayed close to us most of the time to sniff us and climb all over us. They did play so much that they fell asleep about three times in the hour and a half that we were there, haha. It's very true that babies sleep a lot! I'm prepared (and hopeful) that he sleeps most of the 3 and 1/2 hr drive home when we get him. He's about 5 lbs right now and should be significantly bigger when we pick him up in 2 and a half weeks. He won't be fully grown until about three years of age at which time he should weight 110-120 lbs. His dad is pushing 120 but his mom is a little lighter, so we'll have to wait and see where he ends up. The males are significantly larger than females, so we're expecting big. Anyway, he's cute and he looks like a little baby bear right now. He'll change so much over the next few months, so look for future posts. For now, I'm going to post pictures of him from this past weekend and a picture of his treat jar that I made him today. Can you tell we're excited?!
